RECENT NEWS: Year-End Planning for Surety As this year comes quickly to a close, we have a few suggestions for maximizing
your bond capacity in 2009. If your fiscal year end is December 31st, you are in the middle of year-end planning. Please keep in mind bond capacity for next year will be determined by the underwriting of working capital, net worth, and profitability reflected
on your December 31, 2008 CPA financial statements.Given our economic times, there may be a temptation to implement a tax planning strategy which may be in opposition to the surety philosophy of building your balance sheet and retaining earnings. The key to maintaining or growing bond capacity is to reduce debt, collect cash, maintain liquidity, manage overhead and continue to show profitable operating results. If the Leavitt Bond Department can be of assistance in any manner, please give us a call. We are available to help you. PRODUCT HIGHLIGHT: Common Misconceptions/Confusions About Insurance Coverage Uninsured Motorist:Insureds often think this pays to have their car fixed if the person who hits it doesn’t have insurance. However, it only takes care of bodily injury. Fire/Legal: This is coverage for damage to the building caused by you for the area you occupy as a tenant (as this portion is excluded under the General Liability limit). Employee Benefits: What does it really do? If you neglect to add an employee on benefits (i.e. health insurance), it covers you. Work Comp/Employee Liability: These are two separate coverages. Work Comp claims are settled by a statutory limit decided by a governing body. The limit shown on the Work Comp policy is for Employee Liability only. Vacancy Clause Included: Commercial Property policies contain a vacancy clause when buildings become more than 60 percent vacant. Please review your own policy and contact your agent with any concerns. AGENCY NEWS: Leavitt Group Benefits Services Donates Food to Homeless Students It’s that special time of year again, but for many Whitney Elementary School students that are homeless, it is just a reminder that they are without food, good clothes and even a home.To help lighten the load on these students, Leavitt Group Benefits Services donated food to be assembled into food bags for them to bring home on weekends. In addition, Leavitt Group Benefits Services employees brought more than 100 pizzas so each class could throw a pizza party on Monday, December 8. “This holiday season we wanted to reach out and help those in our community that can’t help themselves. With many homeless students, Whitney Elementary School has gone to great lengths to provide comfort, safety, love, reassurance and a hug when needed. We just felt it was the least we could do,” said Dave Johnson, Leavitt Group Benefits Services Co-Owner. |
